Nicole and I decided to play with both the material of paper and how it is used in our society. Paper is flat and can be folded. In our society we use it to write messages. While paper can be very flimsy and be ripped very easily it is hard to believe that it can cause revolutions (through the power of the press). We decided to communicate the influence of paper by creating an enormous paper sculpture. We also wanted to include the surprise aspect by having the viewer watch as the sculpture grew in size, such as we were surprised when thinking how something as simple as paper could be so integral to a culture. To further the point we made the paper from influential news articles hand picked from magazines such as Time and from within the last 5 years. At our presentation we positioned a spotlight on the kinetic sculpture to add drama. We were inspired by this video that Myfanwy shows us in class : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzF-MxHa5YA
Here is our video please watch and enjoy :)
