Helaena's Object & Audio

For this assignment I wanted to share with the class something that no one really knows about me. I decided to explore my love of painting and see where I ended up. Whenever I create a new piece of art, I look for inspiration from anyone and anything around me. I am constantly in search for new, exciting, and unique ideas that help me to form new ideas or pursue already existing ones.

Object: I chose a blank canvas with a quotation saying, “Art is not so much expressing oneself as it is discovering oneself.” The students in class painted on the canvas anything that they wanted, contributing to an evolving piece.

Sound: I wanted the sound to be authentic so therefore I recorded the sound of a paintbrush sweeping across a canvas, essentially the sound of me painting a picture.

Gallery: I would love to have the canvas the size of a large wall, inviting the viewer to come and contribute to the piece. I would make it more obvious as to what exactly the viewer was to do, perhaps a set of instructions. I would also like to see the piece have a specific theme, rather than anything the viewer wishes. The sound would fill the room through hidden speakers and would intentionally have a calming effect. Taking a step further, I would like to create a piece of artwork based on the inspiration I drew from the final completed piece.

My documentation can be found here.

ENJOY!
